The Happy Prince
From The Happy Prince and Other Tales
By Oscar Wilde
The title of the story says about the happiness of the Prince. This story is about the Prince whose statue was made of all the gold and expensive stones and gives away all these jewels to the people of his town those who were in need and a little swallow who sacrificed himself to help the statue of the prince for giving away all the jewels. The Prince who was named Happy Prince was never been out of his palace and never seen the misery of his citizen,  now had a chance to see them, so he became miserable as well, so he gave away all his jewels piece by piece, with the help of the swallow then became blind and naked. Because the statue was blind, the swallow decides to stay with him and help him to see the world through its eyes though it had to fly away from that place to save itself from the cold. The swallow died of cold and the heart of the statue broke into two pieces because the statue and swallow loved each other. In the end, the town mayor ordered to melt the statue of the prince to make their own statue and threw the broken heart and dead swallow. God asked the angel to bring two precious things from the town then the angel brought the broken heart of the statue of the prince and the dead swallow.

The story is based on guilt, sacrifice, love, greed, and karma. The title suggests, how the prince used to be happy who was called the Happy Prince, who never knew sorrow in his life. After the prince was dead, his statue witnessed the misery of the people and he went through the feeling of guilt of not doing anything for the people when he was alive. The guilt made him give away all the jewels of his statue and preferred to stay blind and naked. The swallow had shown the extent of the sacrifice and tremendous love. To help the prince the swallow did not care about the cold though it had to migrate to the warm place to survive and literally died with the cold. It got lots of chances to flew to safety but still, it remained back and look after the happiness of the prince. As there is saying, " Karma is your doing", after the death both the prince and the swallow was taken to heaven by God.

For your Discussion Assignment, you will write a review of the short fairy tale you chose from the Unit 2 reading assignment. You will state which tale you picked, why, and give a brief (one sentence) summary of the story. You will then say if you liked the story or not and why.  Remember, this is to be your own original work, so do not look the stories up to see what other people have said and do not include material from any source except the story.

I have chosen the story "The Happy Prince" by Oscar Wilde. The story inspired us to do the right thing even we have to lay our lives because one day we will get the reward for every right thing that we had done.
This is the story about the statue of the dead Happy Prince, and the swallow who sacrificed his life to be a messenger of the statue of the happy prince for his good deeds.
I liked the story because the story concludes that all the good deeds always have the best reward.
The story is about sacrifice, love, and reward. The prince, who was named Happy Prince because who never faced any problem in his lifetime. After the prince was dead, the kingdom had put the statue of him. Now out of the protective walls, the statue of the prince had witnessed the hardship of his people and went through deep sorrow, so he gave away gems and gold then preferred to live blind and ugly.
The swallow had shown extreme love and sacrifice. The swallow had to migrate to the warmer place to stay alive but he stayed to be the messenger of the prince and delivers the gems and gold from the statue to the worthy people and dead in the cold.
Spring came, the statue looked not impressive, it was melted in the fire and it's broken piece of heart thrown next to the dead swallow. Finally, due to the good deeds of both happy prince and swallow, both souls were taken to heaven by one of the angels of God.
